PHILOSOPHICAL SOCIETY

A meeting of the Geological Section of the Philosophical Society was held last evening, when Dr. J. Henderson presidedMr. G. H. Uttloy, M.A., M.Sc, Principal of Scots College, read a paper on "The Tertiary Rooks of the Lower "Waitaki Valley." It was contended that the upper fossiliferous beds owmrring in that locality were Awanioan in age, that there was no palaeontological evidence to support Professor Park's contention that tho limestone in the Waitaki Valley was j-ounger than the Oamaru building stone.
