PRESENT STATE OF. PARTIES,
The'defeat of the National Government .. candidate, in the. Taranaki byelection has made a .change in the relative strength or parties'in the House of Representatives:. •: It appears now that, the lleform Party, in the Housa consists of 141 members, of wbom one member,'' Sir Frederick Lang, is Speaker. The Liberal members number 31, and the Labour..members 8. For the purpose of this calculation, tho new member for Taranaki is counted as a Labour member, although he is not definitely associated with the official -Labour.tarty, and Mr. W. Uru, the member for the Southern Maori electorate, is' counted as a supporter of Mr. Massey.
