ANNUAL EXHIBITION. '
Public interest in the art exhibition now being held at the Gallery in Whit-, more Street is being well maintained. Yesterday the attendance, notwiJistanding the disagreeableuess of tuo weather, was particularly good. luvrthor selections of pictures were made bv the winners in the members art union drawn on Saturday evening last, and additionalßales have been recprd'ed. Certain pictures by New Zealand artists have been marked by the council as desirable acquisitions.for the Art Gallery, and contributions, largo or small/from the public are earnestly desired to make the purchase of these works possible. Every addition to the permanent collection increases the usefulness of the frt Gallery, and it i 3 therefore confidently hoped that the request made by the president (Mr. H. M. Gore) at the opening ceremonies will not have been made m yam. Ihe works now on view are really excellent examples of the painter's craft and the exhibition affords the public opportunities f apprec winch shouM be-.taken* advantage of. Academy ten one shilling tickets are given in the Sri union which will be drawn before he exhibition closes. The Gallery « open daily from. 10 a.m. to 5.30. and in the evening from 1 to J;80 o'clock. Catalogues and art union ticS are on sale at the entrance.
