The fortnightly meeting olf the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held last evening. 'Mr. F. Meadowcroft was in the chair. Correspondence having been received from the Western Australian Society re the making of eye fringes for the horses engaged'in the war in Palestine and Mesopotamia, Colonel Wylie, officer in charge oif the Orthopaedic Hospital in Christchurch, was written to, with the object of finding out if the men under his care would carry out the work. A reply was received from Colonel Wylie, thanking the society for its suggestion, and stating that he would bo pleased to arrange for the making of the oye fringes, as it would be a useful employment for his patients. The inspector's report included two cases of working horses with sores, one case of skin disease, one dog destroyed, five horses put off work for various reasons, and two cases _of cruelty _ to horses. Subscriptions received amounted to £7 Bs. 6d., including £1 Is., "M.M.E,;" £1, "C.A.K."
