A NUMBER OF CANDIDATES MENTIONED. . A number of candidates are already beinc mentioned for the vacancy caused in Taranaki by the death of the sitting member, the late Mr. Okey. The only candidate who has declared himself is Hγ. P. W. Shortlaiid, solicitor, of Taumarunui, who will stand as a representative or Labour. Others aro Messrs. J. L. Connett, chairmau of the A. and P. Association and chairman of the County Council; A. Morton, chairman of the National Dairy Association; D. Hughes, who has a\wttys been an opponent of the Reform Party, and a son off the late Mr. E. M. Smith.
