THE TROOPSHIP EPIDEMIC
LEAVE AT INFECTED PORTS MAY CEASE. No more serious news hns been received by. the Minister of Defence about the epidemic which afflicted the troops of tho Fortieth Reinforcements on their voyage to England, The Minister said yesterday that ho had not yet received tho names of tho sick, and ho Said also that the. same rules would bo followed these cases as were observed regarding other casualties—tho next-of-kin would be informed before any information was_ given for general publication. An inquiry was being made as to tho measures that might hnvo to be taken to protect tho health of other reinforcements going by the same route. His own impression was that nothing more could be done with the ships, but it might bo necessary to prevent men from going ashore at ports where there was risk of infection. The Ministerhas received advice that tho Forty-second Reinforcements, going by tho samo route, hod reported "Health good" from tho third port of call on September 17, two days ago.
