STATE CONTROL
Sir,—Can it bo that the member for Lyttelton has been converted from a believer in No License to a supporter rif State control and purchase? I notice Ihiit he is now advocating that the four
issues should bo put upon the ballot papers, viz. (1) Prohibition without compensation; (2) Prohibition, Efficiency Board's proposals; (3) State control; and (-1) continuance. It may bo remembered that Mr. M'Combs resigned from his place in the Labour Party because that party adopted State control a-s one of the planks of its platform in 1917, and Mr. M'Combs is now urging that tho Labour Party should give a lead as to tho ballot paper in' the direction he has indicated. Of course, Mr. M Combs, this beinp- so. is evidently following the lead of such men as Lloyd George, Thomas Whittaker, Eickett Coinpton, and other distinguished Prohibitionists who have adopted State purchase as part of their political plati'orm.—l am, CtC,, EFFICIENCY.
