MEDICAL TESTIMONY ON PROHIBITION

Sir,—l see that staunch Prohibitionist, George Petherick, endeavours to prove- his easo for Prohibition by quoting Dr. C.' H. Mayo, of Rochester, president of the American Medical Association, who stated that "medicino no longer needed alcohol, for it had somstliing better," etc., and this statement was cheered by 1500 delegates who attended the convention, who also cheered tlieir approval of his demand bv forming a fighting nhalanx for Prohibition. But this does not help tho Prohibition Party, of which Georgo Pethcrick is a leading light, for has that party not alivady decided that in the ovenfc of Prohibition being brought about in Now Zealand alcohol shall bo exempted for wedioinal and other purposes? Why do not George Pcther'wk and his party (always ready to mioto so mo , medical man who: favours Prohibition us an'authority on the question from the medical point of view) parry out llm proscription given by rhc.ir great doctors on this Question? Why hiiiiibup; the point? Why don't they come out and say "No license, no liquor" ? Then they might bo able to convince people that they arc in earnest in this matter. —I am, etc., K KENNEDY. September 12.
