TRADE DEVELOPMENT
AGENTS IN OTHER COUNTRIES?
When speaking at the farewell luncheon given on Wednesday by tho New Zealand Association of British Manufacturers and Agents to Mr. H. AV. Dnlton, His Majesty's Trade. Commissioner, Iho Hon. Arthur Myers. Minister of Customs, referred to the possibility of the establishment of a British Bureau of Trade and Information. On Ijcing interviewed in this connection by a representative of Tjjb Dominion yesterday, Mr. Myers staled that what lie had in mind was Iho possibility of the adoption by all the Dominions of the Empire of a. scheme to contribute to the support of tlio British Bureau of Trade and Information in the principal countries of tlio world, to keep up inquiries as to the source of origin and of tlio identity of those interested in the exportation or importation of goods. This bureau could, if required, grant, ccrtiliclitcs similar to the certificates of origin niul interest at present required to combat enemy trade. The Dominions could even liavo a representative on tlio start of somo of the principal Trade Bureaux to mako expert iuquiries and to watch generally for industries suited ,f°r adoption in their respective countries. An officer is at present appointed by the Customs Department to make general inquiries as to Customs matters in Great Britain and on the Continent. This appointment has proved to be of the greatest value, but ns has been frequently contended by Mr. Dalfon. and in fairness to British traders, a. New Zealand representative should be appointed to keep Britain's competitors up to the mark, and to see that they do not get special advantage".
