FATAL ACCIDENT
MOTOR-CYCLIST COLLIDES WITH TRAIN. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Carterton, August 12. A sad motor-cycle accident, attended witty fatal, results,' occurred at the Kent, Street railway crossing, Carterton, at 4 o'clock this afternoon. A young man named Percy Parker, aged 21 years, son of Mrs. F. Parker, of Kent Street, vas proceeding into town on his motor-cycle just at tile time when 'the mixed goods train, which leaves Jlastel'ton at 3.25 p.m., was passing the locality. It is stated that the engine gave the usual crossing signal, which apparently was not heard by the motorist, who* crashed sideways on into the sixth truck behind the engine. The force-of the collision threw the unfortunate man some distance buck anainst a fence. Ho was very severely injured about the head, body, arms, and legs. A doctor was soon on the scene, and he ordered the removal of the sufferer to the Greytown Hosnital, but the man died before reaching the institution. The motor-cycle was doublet! u t i almost beyond recognition. Much sympathy is felt with the relatives of the deceased, who was to have proceeded to camp on Wednesday.
