GERMAN BELLS MELTED

PROVED TO HAVE BEEN MADE OP BELL METAL. • By Telegraph.-Pre63 Association. Christchurch, August 6. Three German bells, bujyosed to have been cast from French canaon taken at Sedan in. 1870, were melted down to-day by instructions from the Government. Ihe ingots are being stored for shipment to France. The three bells weighed just short of 18cwt, and an examination by experts showed that they were inado of bell metal, not gun metal.
