Y.M.C.A. V. THISTLE After a week of heavy rain the weather on Saturday uitcrnooii broke beuutitully line, and considering the rain that hail "fallen the grounds at Association Turk were in good order. Tlie meeting of Y.AI.C.A. ami Thistle senior elevens ui-oused keen interest, and the spectators were rewarded by a good game.
Thistle kicked oil', facing a blight sun, but V.M.C.A. quickly got to work and rushed the ball to Thistle's goal area, where Billiard sent in a good shot, but Loveless t'l'liistie's goal-keeper) returned nicely, mid play returned to midh'eld. Bell (Thistle) here gained possession, and with a nice dribble took the ball into Y.M.C.A.'s territory, ami then sent on Trevilhick, who, from a nice position, sent in a Bitot that went wide. From the goal-kick Thistle again attacked, but over-eagerness on the part of Edwards spoilt a good chance when he hml practically an open gonl. Thistle at this stage were getting decidedly the belter of the play, and a nice piece of combined play, in which Duncan, Trevilhick, and -Edwards participated, ended in tho last-niinipd player sending in a hot shot which completely beut Sinclair, the Y.M.C.A. ffoal-kcepor. Thistle I, Y..W.C.A. nil. Coiyviletely roused by this reverse, Y.M.C.A. put in some hot work, and from a nice piece of combined play Elford scored. Y.jr.C.A. 1, Thistle 1. .Almost immediately from tho kick-0i1', , . Y.M.C.A. scored again, this time, through the agency of Ballurd. Y.M.C.A. 2, Thistle 1. Thistle here put in another of thejr characteristic rushes, from which Edwards sent in a shot which beat the gcal-keeper, but, unfortunately for his side, he had handled the ball, and the goal was disallowed. From the ensuing free-kick Y.M.C.A. took the ball right to tho mouth of Thistle's goal, and from a scramble B.allard again did tho necessary. Y.AI.C.A. 3, Thistle 1. With play in Y.M.C.A. goal urea, the whistle sounded for half-time.
The opening singes of the second spell wero characterised by several hot rushes on the part of Thistle, and on one occasion no fewer than three corners were awarded them before Y.M.O.A. finally cleared their goal. For a short period play remained in midh'eld, where a lot of line work was indulged in—Bell and Al'Keime (Thistle), and Jarmy and Stephenson (Y.M.C.A.) being particularly noticenble for clever footwork for their respective sides. At length Y.JI.C.A., through good work on the part of Fribofjr and Wilson, broke through tho Thistle's defence, and then handed the ball on to taeii- forwards, who, with a. pretty piece of passing, took the. ball right up to the Thistle's gonl mouth, where Bnllard sent in a high dropping shot, which completely beat Loveless. Y.M.C.A. i, Thistle 1. Urged on by their .supporters, Thistle indulged in a nice passing rush, in which Trevithick, Smith, Edwards, and Dunciiii took par?, and this took the hall right to Y..M.C.A. goal, but here Duncan, with only tho goal-keeper to bent, was unfairly tackled by Frjberg. A penalty was ' awarded Thistle, bnt Smith's kick was well taken by Sinclair, and play was removed to j midfield. From now on Y.11.C.A. had flie best of play, but were umiWe to do any more scoring owing lo the efforts of Thistle's backs, who had all along put up a sterling game. Tlie whistle sounded with Y.Jj.C.A. being the winners by four goals to one. Third Division. The Institute-Marist inalcli, generally slow, bristled with fine individual play. In the second .spell Institute showed the value of combination, which resulted in Houston (Instituta) giving the goalkeeper no chance in stopping a splendid shot. Institute, 1; Jlarist, 0. Play by this time was threatening to get interesting when Institute were penalised for hands, and Fitzgerald (llurist) made no mistake in snapping up an oppoitunity lo level mutters. Institute. 1; Jlarist, 1. Play after that was kw;n, each side trying to get the winning goal, but the game ended in a draw—ono all.
