HIDE AND TALLOW SALES
The various. brokers held - their fortnightly sale of hideß and tallow yesterday. .Messrs. Dalgety and Go. report that they submitted a good catalogue, comprised mainly' of stout hides suitable for tanjicrs, requirements. . Prices wcrp,n shade easier all' round than at last sale, although it may be noted that p'iccs for prime stout ox and calfskins are better than under the recent Government schedule. Tallow was keenly cempeted for, and good lines in tins were 2n. to 3e. per cwt. higher.
Messrs. T,>evin.and Co. submitted a fair selection, including' some n'ce rl-ut Darcele, which slightly Mi«ier realised satisfactory prices. Medium were fiilly one-farthing better. wMlst inferior realised last sale's rulinss. Yearlings and calf declined three-farthings.
Messrs. Murray, Eoberts, and Co. report having submitted a ?ataloi;ue of 6PG hides. The attendance of buyers was gnod, competitiqn being keen, especially for superior conditioned hides. Pr. ! c.e3 -.vtre well maintained, best cowe showing au advance of sd. per lb., while ox hides sold at laet pale's rat£S. Calfskins hardly resetted the extreme figures naid at lasj «2le, but ■the offerings were rather of a poorer character. Tallow was fairly firm. Messrs. Abraham ' and Williams report that they had a fairly larze offering, and there rots-keen '■qmpetition for al! lines. They Quitted the whole of the'r catalogue at prices weil up to last sale rpfe=, with the exception of calfskine, which wjre slightly easier. Cow hides were keenly eought .after, and prices adranced slightly in consequence, especially the lighter weights. Tallow adranced about 2?. 6d. per cwt. for casks and tine. The Waifaram. Farmer?' Co-operative 'Association, Ltd., and the United Farmers' Co-operative Association reDOrt jond competition. Medium ox hides and cow liidea were on a- car with last sale, and calfskins firm at the samj; price' aB last Bale. There was a good demand for tallow, prices being firmj . The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile 'Agency Co.. Ltd., report:—Buyers were in fair attendance, and bidding Keen for all lots at last sale's rates for heavy hides and beet calfskins. Tallow and fat advanced sliihtly.
