PAYMENT FOR MEAT
«■ DISTRIBUTION OF THREE MILLIONS. It was announced some days ago that the Imperial Government had advanced the sum of three millions against the meat held in cold stores in tyi's country for which there is no shipping at present. As the sum does not by any means amount, to the total value of the meat, a plan had to ba agreed upon as to what advances should be made. The Hon. D. H. Guthrie, Minister in Charge of the Imperial .Supplies Department, stated tho arrangement yesterday. Cabinet, he said, has agreed to a plan to pay out 75 per cent, of the value of last seaBon's meat in store. Tho value of this meat is about £150,000, and tho. payment of this advance against it will absorb .£337,000, leaving ,£2,6G3,000 for division amongst tho owners of 1917-18 meat in store up till the end of May last. This sum will be sufficient to pay an advance of 48 per cent, of the value of the meat, and the distribution will bo proceeded with at once by tho Imperial Supplies Department.
