4 ■ MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. A meeting of tho Victoria College Council was held last night. Present: Messrs.' C. Watson (chairman), W. S. La Trobe, E. :F. Bakewell, Professors 'f. A. Hunter and Garrovr, and P.ev. W. A. Evans. — The Finance Committee recommpnded that the suggestion of the Canterbury m College Board that the Westland and | Grey districts be brought into the Can- &_ terbury University districts be approved. !; It was decided to refer the matter to } the Professorial Board for consideration, f On the. recommendation of the Finance , and Business Committee, it was decided I that the appeal by the council neninst | tho calling up of Mr. 11. E. Strawbridge | for military service be dropped, and that | Mr. R- C. Slisnnan be appointed during i Mr.' fitrawbridge's absenco as mechanic |i for the Physics Department. fi II: was resolved that tho sum of £8500 S on fixed deposit in the Bank of New Zea- | land (S. 'A; Ehcdes bequest), which i matures on June 27, be reinvested in the j Bank of Now Zealand on ."xed deposit t for two years. - B Accounts, amounting to XIHB6 2s, lid., % were passed for payment. .J
