"ALTOGETHER INADEQUATE"
WAGES OP DAIRY FACTORY •MANAGERS. (Prom Our Special Reporter.) Palmerston N., June 19. Speaking at the National Dairy Conference yesterday, Mr. A. Morion (president of the National Dairy Association) referred to the question of the wages of dairy factory managers. Mr. Morton said that the labour problem was a difficult one. Labour was scarcer than formerly, and was not so satisfactory as it used to be. "While there had been increases in certain directions, the wages of dairy factory managers had not been increased as they should have been. A scale of wages had been adopted, and no doubt adhered to* but the cost of living increased with factory managers as well as with other workers, and if wages were not increased for them (especially for the lower-paid managers) the managers would be forced in their own defence to form a union. A union of factory managers would not be in the iuteresls of the industry. The scale of pay arranged for four years ago was altogether inadequate to-day.
