DAIRYMEN URGE CONSERVATION. By Telegraph.-SpeciaJ Reporter. Palmerston North, June 19. At its conference here to-day the National Dairy Association joined the agitation for Government action to conserve the supplies of kahikaten, commonly known as white pine, a timber used for the making of butter boxes.. Mr. J. S. Murdoch (Okaiawn) moved: "That on account of the rapidly diminishing quantity of kahikatca-r. timber, specially suitable for making packages for foodstuffs, the Government ho urged to at once conserve all su-ili timber for ihe Dominion requirements, and at the same time begin some syste.n of thorough reafforestation of such suitable timbers as will in the near future replace those (hat are now annually used in essential industries." . '.',,.. Mr. A. M'Farlane (Pahiar.ia) said that probablv the Government could, only oompulsorily conserve the timber tn Grown lands. To apply the proposal to private individuals who had taken up land on which stood white pine bush might result in hardship. . Mr. Murdoch said that white pine on Crown land was being conserved.
