A heavy thunderstorm passed over the Wairarapa on Tuesday night. The lightning was particularly vivid. The revenue of the gas department of tho Masterton Borough Council for the month of May was JU726 Us. 4d., compared with £1410 17s. lOd. for the corresponding month last year. A movement is being made by a number of the stud breeders, in the Wairarapa to hold a combined ram and owe fair in Masterton in January next. The Wellington Thcosophical Society has presented the Masterton public library with a number of books. The engineer of the Masterton Borough Council estimates that tho cost of toS airing the stop-bank on the Waiooua iver, damaged by the recent flood, will be .£250. Tho charge for slaughtering pigs at the Masterton borough abattoir has been increased from Is. Bd. to 2s. per head. Mr. 11. Wanden, of Blenheim, has consented to judge the fancy classes at the Masterton Poultry Society's coming show. Councillors Cotter and Perry have been appointed to represent the Masterton Borough Council at a meeting, to be held at Pnlmerston North on Thursday to discuss the proposed Mangahao hydroelectric scheme. The Waingawa Freezing Works have practically completed operations for the present season. The quantity of stock slaughtered has been considerably greater than that of last year. A good deal of ■the lower grade meat has been canned. The breeders of different classes of stock in tho Wairarapa are providing cups for competitions at the next Wairarapa Show. . The death occurred at Carterton rn Monday of Mr. John F. Gerosky, at the age of 71) years. Deceased hail resided in Carterton for the past 43 years. An effort is being made 'to form a branch of (he Early Setllers' Association in the Wairarapa. Mr. Colin Campbell, of Clarevllla, has purchased Mr. 11. V. Skev's nrnoerrv, known as "Tho Pines," l.oar Parkvalc. Mr. Campbell lakes possession in August. ,Mr. G. K.
