There wis u lame jiUeiulunco. and tho totnlisator handled for the day, compared with £l4,Qfli on tho corresponding d«y last year. Tho total Xor the meeting was £-9,7,39, compared. with £25,38/ laat year. A start wan mudo with the Hurdle?, for which tho wholo of the seven acceptors went to tho post. Kauri lun/j was a- belter favourite than PureeJiller. Con ca.uj?ht tho tapes at tho barrier, but ho led lor a mile, while Pursetlller, who was acain alow to lliiti her feet, whipped the Hold. Kauri ICine headed Con at the half-mile, and, drawing away, the Soult gelding won very easily from Otara and Castalia, both of whom did better to-<la.y. Broadway was tho only ecratcltin:,' r for the Jlaideu Handicap. Nowra and J\'ewlant and General Stephen -were all evenly backed. At the start ttoggits and Mowlam led, aud tho pair were first into tho straight. Her© Nowra dashed up cu the outride, and won nicely, while jiliiltiplane, finishing on well, beat General Stephen, who got a bad passagu again, due to Mnltiplauo slipping: in front of him. 'J. ho stewards -wont into the matter, but accepted the explanation. The bis Handicap was a ereal belting event, tho first four boMes on tho card all being evenly backed. Loyal Arch look up the running at tho start, and attended by Polydamon she led down tho back. At the half-mile Hyllua ran to the front, and was first into the straight, but he was'then joined by Flash Lady and Clef I. Hyllus w;ih quickly done with, and Jlullive and Flash Jjjuly were lighting out the linish when Cleft appeared oa the outside, and-in a great finish he won by a head from lluitive with Flash Lady a neck away. Hylius was close up. and then came Loyal Arch with the iinglish importation Polydamon tailed off. The .winner was very well handled, and this materially assisted towards his suceess. Scratching numbored four in the Second Hack Handicap, but. there were still left eight runners. Actifid was better preferred than Blacli Lace and Valley. The l&Bt-namcd went out quickly, and at the half-way had a big break on tho Held; but aB they raced into tho straight the favourite shook herself clear, and ran through and cut down the leader. The effort told nuder her big weight, and Sabine, finishing on, boat her by a narrow margin. Syhvsisco was a fair third, and then came Black Lace. The Steepleehaso was only a two-horse race. Sandy Paul made the paw a crawl for two miles, when .Master Timi ran to tho front, and won eaßily. Tho top "weight hit the stone "wall hard the first time, and was nearly down, but otherwise ho jumped well. Sandy Paul got into several of his fences, but managed to stand up. Tho four acceptors in the Turanganm Steeplechase all went to the po.st, and Kxpcdition, Fagot, Advancer, and Juan were preferred in that order. The race was one of the best jumping cont-cstß ever seen oil the course, and throughout the two miles the quartet kept well together. Advancer took up the role of pacemaker, and led throughout, but at no stage of the race vva& there much ground between any of the runnera. # Expedition was in socond pla£o for a. mile when Fagot, and Juan displaced him. • The latter tired, and Fagot took off at the second fence Jrom home with Advancer, but the latter had the pace, and won by two lengths. Juan was a- fair third and Expedition well back. Tho latter was very lame on pulling up. In the concluding event Qrawia had tho services of O'Shea, and the little fellow was nearly as good a favourite as Ga7.ique. Jumping out smartly at the Mart the favourite led throughout. For the first half-niilo he was attended by Movement, but the latter then fell back, and Downham took his place. Gazique and Multifual made efforts in the straight, but had no chance of reaching the leader, who won easily frora Downham. Mnltifjial was a head in. front of Gazique, and then camo Colonuade.
