9 VICTORIA CLUB'S REPORT; In tho course of tho report of the Victoria Bowling Club to be presented at the annual meeting on Juuo 2'l it is stated:— "The great world struggle goes on, but by reason of the indomitable will of the people of our great Empire and tho help of onr Allies we hope that the end is' neariug. With firm confidenco in the final result we leavo the future and all it holds of sacrifice and pain in tho beneficent hands of an over-ruling Providence. Many of our members have had tho war forced ujion them. Their losses have been borne with admirable fortitude; it may help them to know- that their fellow-members share their grief in silent sympathy. Alay we all live to seo emerging from the smoke and din of battle a still greater Empire, strongly welded together, and ready to fight for the freedom and rights we hold to dear. "Tho receipts for tho year wero ill) 0 Is. 10(1., and tho expenditure ,£4Ol 7s. 2d., and tho bank overdraft is .£92 Is. 6d. All subscriptions have been paid. Tho club's war relief fund now stands at .£ll 6s. 4d., having received £1 Is. id. in donations and interest since last report. Our subscriptions for patriotic and war purposes during tho year have amounted to itG Is. Gel., and in November last the club was represented in the bowlers' special effort in aid of the Christmas (.lift l''und.
"Eleven new members wero elected during the season, seven resigned, and three were written olf. The membership w now 88. Messrs. H. Eraser and J. Jenkins liavo gone into camp. We wish them gOod luck and a safe return; their names, and thoso of any other members of tho club who may bo callcd up for activo service, will bo kept on tho roll while they are oway.
"Tho green was opened on October 0, and closed on April 13; last year the green Buffered considerably through unfavourable weather shortly after icing top-dressed, consequently it was not as satisfactory as could be desired; however, by the painstaking attention of Mr. Holmes, to whom the thanks of the club aro due, the best playing conditions under the circumstances ivero maintained throughout the scjscu. Tho necessary work connected tvi'b levelling, top-dress-ing, and sowing was taken up in good time Ibis year, and there is every prospect that next season our g'.wn will be second to nono in the c'.ty.
