MEMORIAL TO A V.C.
OBELISK AND SCHOLARSHIP. • The general committee in Auckland set up to deal with tho question of tho erection of a suitable memorial to Lieiit.Commnnder Sanders, V.C, discussed at some length, on Friday afternoon, tho recommendations brought down by tho executive committee. The recommendations that the memorial take the form of a suitable statue or obelisk of approved design, and .also a scholarship, open to New Zealand boys desirous of entering the merchant service, were adopted. Recommendations regarding the conditions of tho scholarship were referred back to the executive, as a number of thoso present expressed the opinion that under the conditions us they stood, tho boy who went to sea early in lifo and had to work for his living would find a great difficulty in obtaining tho necessary instruction. A. recommendation that the appeal be confined to the Auckland Province, but that other centres be afforded an opportunity of contributing to the fund, should they desire to do so, was adopted.
