SOLDIERS' SERVICE BADGES

ISSUE OF UED AND BLUE CHEVRONS. It is announced in Feathersfon Camp ortlers Hint it is contemplated to issue and grant authority to wear led and blue' chevrons as under:— Every soldier who ',ns served abroad' is entitled to a chevron for each year of hie service, data of eligibility for his first chevron being date of embarkation in Now Zealand for service in a field overseas. If tho date of eligibility ~.r the first chevron occurred on or before Decimiber 31, 1914, his first chevron will bo red; if the date of eligibility occurred after January 1, 1015, the chevron will be blue, and all subsequent chevrons will l)e blue. It is proposed that these chevrons may bo worn by discharged soldiers nn plain clothes, if, had they conhn.ued in llio service, they would have been entitled to them on uniform, but no issue in such cases will be made from Government stores. It is considered, however, as in the case of homo service men and thoso on duty in camp, etc., the issue should be mado, when approved, to all serving Boldiors. In order that an estimate may bo arrived at as to the number of chevrons likely to be required, unit lommandem nru to forward a return to Headquarters by 9 a.m. to-morrow, showing the number of soldiers in their respective units who will be entitled to an issue.
