GENERAL MAURICE'S LETTER
PARLIAMENTARY CRISIS CREATED
London, May S. , Genera! Maurice's letter has resulted in the creation of a Parliamentary situation full of danger. The Govornmout has intimated that if Mr. AsquitVs motion (reported yesterday) is carried it will immediately tender its resignation. It is understood that on Thursday Mr. Lloyd Georgo will mako a full stntemont regarding tho larger issues involved in General Maurice's charges, including the details of the British forces on the Western front to 1917 and at the beginning cf 1918, with tho relative strengths of Uio British and German Armies and artillery during tho preser*- enemy iffensivo.
The "Daily Express" states that General Maurice's apparent contradiction of Mr. Bonav Law regarding; the Versailles Council and the extension cf the British line is really no contradiction. The tiro statements refer to different things. Sir. Lloyd Gborge's statements 'Ogarding the number of white troops in the East and tho strength of Sir Douglas Jlaig's forces on the ct'o of the offensive aro based solely on information supplied by tho proper military authorities.—Aus.-N.Z.
