A PLEA THAT HAD NO WEIGHT. Edward Blooinfiold appeared in tho Magistrate's Court yesterday, before ilr. S. E. M'Carthy, S.H?, charged with being found drunk. The defendant, against whom tbero mere two previous convictions within the past six months, pleaded guilty. He pleaded hard for achanco, and stated that he was a married man. Tho Magistrate: If you are a married man, why do you want to waste your money in drinh? , The defendant laid that he had met some friends on Saturday, iind was carried away by sentiments of friendship. Ho again pleaded for a chance for the sake? of his wife antl children. 'The Magistrate: You were sentenced to three months' imprisonment not so very long ago for drunkenness, The defendant: Yes, Sir, and my house was broken up then, and I have just got it together again. F's Worship: I have a terriblo.iot of men like you conui before me, and it seems that tho only time you think of your wives and children is when you are in trouble. The defendant was fined <65, in default 14 days' imprisonment, and ho vras ordered'to apply for a prohibition ordor.
