DEATH OF A SCHOOLBOY
An inquest was held yesterday afternoon concerning the deatli of a schoolboy named Alfred Fairhurst Hailwood, thirteen years of age, who died suddenly nt his parents' home, No. 9t Upper (Veld Street, Wadestown, on the evening of April 25. The lad had been playinjf football that day. and when lie got homo lie complained that lie was not feeling well. Ho was put to bed, and declined to have anything to cat. Ho was visitfid by his father and mother at intervals, and his father, who saw him at 7 p.m., thought lie was then sleeping: His mother went in at 10 p.m. to see if ho would have a cup of tea, and- found she could not wako him. I)r. Pnttio was sent for, but the lad was then dead. Dr; Kington Fyfle, who made the postmortem examination, '.said that the body was that of a wll-nourished boy. There were no marks of violence. On examining the skull, he found the brain on the right side was converted into a cavii.v. and contained blood and broken down tissue. " It was an old tubercle [ilwcpjs cavity. The lungs showed distinct evidence of early tuberculosis. Ho was of opinion mat death was due lo haemorrhage of the brain, caused by the bursting of a tubercular abscess into thp large vessel. Playing football would have brought this about. 'After hearing the cvidonco of the mother of the deceased and a schoolmate, the coroner returned a verdict that death was due to haemorrhage of the brain, in accordance with tlio medical evidence.
