TRAINING COLLEGE STUDENTS

STATUS ON EETUE-N FEOM WAR,

The position of Training College Students on their return from the front was discussed ut a special meeting of the Education Board on Thursday. There were present at the meeting the chairman (I lie Hon. J. 6. W. Aitken) and Messrs. '!'. Forsyth, K. M'Cnllum, JI.P., E. H. Penny, G. London, W. H. Field, if.?., and W. Allan.

The matter was touched upon by Mr. J. S. Tennant, tho principal of the college, at tho invitation of the board. According to llr. Tennant. many students had returned, and there were many more to come back in due course, but no provision was being made for them. They owed it to tho students to do all they could for them, If something were not done the position in the future would be a serious one. Otherwise the students would not come back to the profession. Ho suggested that the students should be received back with exactly the same standing thoy would have had if they had remained in New Zealand. The board could rest assured that he and his colleagues on the staff of tho Training College would do all they could in the matter.

Tho chairman (Mr. J. G. AV. Aitken) agreed with Mr. Tennant that regulations and clauses in the Act would not assist tho proposals, and ho suggested that a deputation wait on the Minister of Education. He thought there was no doubt that the Minister of Education would give attention to the matter.

After further discussion the board decided to wait on the Minister of Education and Sir James Allen, and pla-;e the matter before them. Meanwhile tho other education boards in the Dominion will bo approached with the object of enlisting their co-operation in the matter.
