A LIQUOR CASE
CHARGE AGAINST A MERCHANT DISMISSED. (By Telegraph—Special Corrospondent.) Masterton, April 12. In tlie Magistrate's Court _ to-day, Harold Brown, wino and spirit'merchant, Wellington, for whom, Mr. J. JM'Grath appeared, was charged with delivering liquor in a No-Liconse district, and with keeping- liquor for sale. Tlio defencc raised was that Brown was taking liquor to Pahiatua ; and on tlio journey called in at Solway Showgrounds, where a Ram Fair was being held, 'and where the defendant had an interest in a soft drinks booth. Immediately on his arrival in a motorcar a. police constable seized a portmnnteau containing four bottles or whisky." The Magistrate, Mr. Rcid, hold that tliero had been no delivery within tho meaning of the Act, and it had not been proved that tho liquor was exposed for sale. : Consequently uottt oharges were dismissed, without evidence boing called for tho defence.
