NAPIER'S NEW MAIN SCHOOL
PROTEST, AGAINST DEPARTMENT'S DECISION. By Telegraph-Press Association. Napier,. April 12. A fc a meeting of tho Education Board! I u-'!;t,y a letter was received from the Oirwtoivof Education, stating that the Napier Main School wan to be built on tho old site and was to accommodate from 4<X) to 450 011 an average. Tho letter was described by tho chairman an a thunderclap, who pointed out that tho Minister and also tho l'rimo Minister and representatives of tho Education Department all absolutely refused! to consider building on the old site, owing to the lack of space. Mr. ,J. C. Thomson moved a motion to tho effect that letters ho sent to tho Prime Minister and other' members of Cabinet expressing indignation at tho unwarranted delay and tardy, behaviour of the Department in dealing with this, urgent matter, and protesting against the school being built 011 a site of less than 2J acres. During the courso of tho discussion on this matter tho methods of tho Department and the very unnecessary delays to the full. Mr. AV. Oates, who said that education was tho first thing in the land, condemned tho action of the Minister. Mr. G. F, Roach declared that the Minister had turned a somersault in connection with this, matter.
It was decided eventually.to send a deputation of as many members of the hoard as possible to AVelliugtem to wait on Parliament early next week.
