STAR BOATING CLUB
SATURDAY'S SPORTS.
There was a very good attendance of the pv.'olio to witness the rowing contests between members of the Star Boating, Olub. Jupp's Band was in attendance, and afternoon tea was served by tho wives and lady friends of the members. The day was dull, a stiff northerly was blowing, and the water' was choppy, still good contests' resulted. Tho idea of holding the sports was to give a sort of farewell to about 20 or 25 young members who will attain military age before the noxt season opens. ' At the commencement 1 of the season the elub members made a canvas and secured sixty now members, all under military age, and these lads have been kept in training, which 'will no doubt prove useful to them later on. ' Very few old members wero present, there being about' a dozen or so, men ineligible for military service. The results wero as follow:— Double Sculls'.—First heat: U'akclin (stroke), Rcid (bow), beat Montgomery (stroke), Chatfield (bow). Second heat: M'Go'win (stroke), Marris (bow), boat Coates (stroke), Gamble (bow). Tho final'was won by Montgomery's crow. Fours—First heat: Mitchell (stroke), Coates (3), (Harris'(2), and Wilson (bow) beat Calvin ■ (stroke}, Hislop (3), Gamble (2), and Simm (bow). Second hoat: Tomlinson (stroke), M'Gowan (3), Gasquoine (2), and Brown, (bow) beat Pollock (stroke), Wakelin (3), Diehl (2), and Moss (bow). Tho final was won by. Tomlinson's crew.'
