A harbour accident, involving the loss of four lives, occurred near North Head about 7.15 last evening. Those drowned are: K. Sutherland, boatbuilder, Devonport, aged 24; Ernest Skinner (aged 11), Jack Skinner (frged nine), and David Skinner (aged bis), whoso parents reside in Domain Street, Devonport. , A boy, Christian Hellesoi, aged 12, who was aboard the boa't was saved. The five were in a small dinghy, fishing, well out in the channel, when the steamer Glenelg, towing a scow, coming into the harbour, passed close by them. _ Those on 'the steamer shouted a warning to look out for the towrope, but the boat's, anchor had just been weighed, and the wind and tide carried the • dinghy on to the rope, which, catching the mast, canted the little boat over. Before the dinghy could bo- extricated the. scow crashed on to it, capsizing it. The steamer and scow each threw out a lifebuoy, and each lowered a boat. Hellesoi ■ was rescued, but no trace was (found 0 f the others, though the search,was continued for an hour. It is stated that-those on tie dinghy were grouped around a lamp on board cutting up bait, and this obscured the light. The bodies have not yet been recovered.
