At present tobacconistsclose at 8 p.m., oil four days of the week; at 1 p.in. on one day (either Wednesday or Saturday), and at 10 p.m. on the late night. After a good deal of discussion it was proposed that the closing hour on four days of the week should be 7 p.m., 1 p.m. on Saturday . (or such other day as might he selected), and 10 jj.m. on the laFe night, with reservations for 11 o'clock closing on Christmas and New Year's Eves, and 9 p.m. on the evening preceding Anniversary Day. This proposal met with the approval of the meeting, and an effort is to be made to get a majority of the tobacconists to agree to the hours mentioned, when a requisition will be forwarded to the Labour Department to have such hours declared legal. It is understood that a movement is on foot for the earlier closing of booksollers and stationers' shops.
