MAGISTRATE'S COURT
POLICE AND-CIVIL CASES
■Mr. S. E. M'Carthy, S.M., presided at tho Magistrate's Court yesterday, and dealt with the police ensos. . David Powell, a seaman, was charged with being found drunk, nlscswith being absent from his ship without leave. On tho first charge , hoi was convicted and fined 10s., in default twonty-four hours' imprisonment, and on the second ho was sentenced to fourteen days' imprisonment, and ordered to ho handed ov.er to the captain of the vessel on application.
For insobriety three first offenders were each fined 10s., with the alternative of twenty-four hours' imprisonment.
A remand to 'Wednesday was granted in t-lio case of William M'Donald, charged with tho theft of 22b. 7d. in money, the property of Thomas Parker. Inspector Marsack intimated that a further charge of hor6e-stealing would probably be brought against tho accused.
. CIVIL CASES. Mr. W. G. Riddoll, S.M., heard tlio civil cases. ... Judgment was given for plaintiff by default in the following cases :--Louise Rice v.- Charles M'Leod, £54- 135.. costs £3 175.; Burch and Co., Ltd., v. Arthur Brooke! , , ss. costs only; Commercial Agency, Ltd., and Thomas Horton, Ltd., v Rangi Rautahi, £1 10s., costs 135.; Vacuum Oil C 0.., Ltd.. v. S. Jouos. £12 155.7 d., costs £1 10s. 6d.; same v. S. M'Donald, £117s. d<s., costs 35.; same v. W. J. Marsh, £73 14s. Gd., costs £4 6s. 6d.
REPAIRS TO A LAUNCH. A. J. Dingle- and Co., motor engineers, for whom Mr. E. K.Kirkcaldio appeared, pr'ocoeded against Guiesep])e Greco, fisherman, represented by Mr. H. F. O'Leary', to recover £29 95., for repairs to a launch and incidental charges. After hearing evidence, the Magistrate gave judgment for plaintiff for £26 and costs £4 14s.
