TAUHERENIKAU MEETING

BED KIBBON WINS TUB OUP. (From Our Special Correspondent.) feathcrston, ilarch 14. Tho Wairarapa ltacing Oiub'a meeting commenced unlay in splendid weather. Tho coui'6o was in good order, and tho attendance well up to standard. Mauy thousand soldiers wcro, present. The Judicial Committee met twice during the day. First to hear-a complaint from tlio owner of Hiss tie Val Unit B. Deeley had broken an engagement to ride for him. Deeley was fined £20 and reported to tho AuoKlund liconsing body. Later a telegram was received from the Wanganui Jockey Club stating that H. Young's license had been withdrawn. Young was called before the committee and stated that he knew nothing of the matter, but after consideration tlio committee ordered him to stand down.

Utiwai and Puketoi were the only withdrawals from the Trial Hack Handicap, leaving fourteen runners. Street Singer was a good favourite, with Blighty second choice. Livlaud was first to show out, hut Tonukoho soon headed him, and attended by Street Singer the Feilding horso led to the straight. Here Blighty showed up on tho outside, hut in the race to the post the iE3uo lay between Tonukohe and Street Singer. The former won by a neck, with Justification clear of Blighty, Llvland and Wlri. Tho Wardell Handicap was a fine race, the field being bunched nearly all the way. At the start Lady , Black, Vermilion and Chimera wero prominent, and they came into tho straight just clear of Crowhurst, who headed tho other bunch. In the run to tho post Chimera asserted herself, and ridden out, won by a length from Crowhurst. who was a head in front of Vermilion. Glorify, Lady Black, and Colonnade were the next to finish. The winner has been a most useful, stake-earner emco passing into her present ownership. llomao was favourite in the Hack Welter Handicap, with Talitha next in demand. Occasion, on the fence, was quickest to i begin a;nd led into the straight from Momac, who then took charge. Skedaddle and Whakatina, put in challenges, but tho top-weight held his own and won all out by a length. Whakatina was a nouk behind Skedaddle, and then came Manu, Occasion, and Perrier. . _ Bed Bibbon had Deeley'e services in the Cup and etarting a good favourite sno won by a length at the finish after being badly placed over the first six furlongs. Tho early running; was made by IS anna with Bonnie Maid and Rose 'Pink close up. Bating across the bottom Bonnie Maid headed Nanna and was first into tni) straight, but shortly afterwards Red Ribbon appeared on the outside and Trials also showed up. Red Bibbon got the .ast rnn and beat Trials by a length, with Mise de Val. who had got through on the fence, dose up third.' Gold Soult, Devotion, and Mcnelam were the next to finish. Nanna, stopped badly after going a _ mile, ana seems to bavo had enough racing for tho The Hastings trained Parisian Diamond looked a picture in in, the birdcage prior to the start of tlio Open Welter Handicap, and the top-weigl;t was made a good faroiiilo. There was a long delay at tho barrior which did not assist Fields mount. At the start Probation, on the fence, was quickest to begin, but • tho favourite- soon ran up to her, an'd the pair piloted Mul■taino and Bradaraanto into the Biraight. In the run home Probation fell back, and Parisian Diamond was seriously challenged by Bradamantc and Mascot. v The two first-mentioned crossed the , line together, and tho judgj declared a. dead heat.. Mascot w.U right up, and came Probation und Comment. The uvo-year-old handicap was> a great betting dnel between Torfreda and Demos, but the latter had the call at the close, of operations. A t the start the pair jumped out well,.withDatnien and Activohandy. Entering tl.o straight Torfreda. wae' clear of Demos, who was hanging in. and, Active and-Chantry, showed up well over tho last furlong, but nothing had a .chanco ■with .Torfreda who.won by two lengths ■Irom' Demos. Active was third, and tliou -camo Chantry, Damien, and Esperance. Iα the Soldiers' Cup field, Multivu was a good favourite with Cooing aud. Midnight Star jvenly! backed. Idyllic made the early running) froin Battle oong aDd Multive, with' Mjdnight Star tailed oS. Battle Song was first into the straight, but was immediately challenged by Cooing, and the pair left the field. A good , finish resulted :;i favour of Battle Song by\a -neck. Multive was a length away, and then came Consultation,. Arihia, and Midnight Star. ■ •' Tliero wer* twelve staricrß in the concluding event, 'which was the best betting race of tho day. The actual favourite was Association, but Engari, Galore, Marenga, and Pervolo were all well backed. Eupari, on the inside, jumped out smartly and led into the straight. Hero Ayah, Marenga,l Mill Queen, and Association were haiidy. The last-named dnehed to the front at the distance, and won with a hit in hand from Ttajnut and Galore, both of whom finished well. DESERT GOLD'S DEFEAT

LACK OF STAYING POWER NOT PROVED.

By Telegraph-Press Association-Copyright Sydney, March 14. The sporting critic of the Sydney "Daily Telegraph" says that »■«. analysis of the circumstances of Desert Golds defeat in the King's Plate ought to satiety unprejudiced people that the result does not prove that the mare cannot run two miles, and that a further test should be awaited. She may not bo a true staycrone of the Carbine kind; but surely It is too early to jump to the conclusion that' the champion inaro is only a midctledistance performer.
