FOR A BLIND SOLDIER
Spine- considerable time ago there enlisted in the A.S.C. at Trentham a man who had met with an accident which ; deprived him of the sight of oho eye. Since enlisting, misfortune again overtook him. While- cutting wood at homo a splinter flew and hit him in the other eye, totally blinding him. He is a married man with a family and in poor circumstances, so with a view to assisting him temporarily his comrades in the A.S.C. organised a concert and dance at tho Tipper Hutt. This was held on Tuesday evening last, and despite a downpour of rain the hall was crowded. The concert programme, which was arranged by the Misses Nicholas (3), was of a very high order, and thoso ladies' efforts were greatly appreciated, ns wore also those of the other performers who journeyed from Wellington to assist. Thcidanec which followed was very largely attended. The supper arrangements were iii the ca|\able hands of Mesdames Mabcy, Sorrcll, and Miss JT'Guinncss. The concert party returned to Wellington, hy niotor-cai's, which were provided free of charge by the owners. The unfortunate soldier .will be handed a considerable sum of money as a result of his comrades' efforts, though ho will rorniirc still further assistance, as he will now havo to learn a trade sn as In enable him to provide for his wife and growing family. ,
