UNION OF THE CHURCHES

A CONGREGATIONALISM VIEWS. By Telegraph—l'ress ABBOoiatlon. Christchurch, March 7. In ■ bis presidential address _ at the Congregational Union to-night the Rev. A. Hodge (Napier) said it had teen suggested that the first step towards a united New Zealand Church was a union of their own body with ilie Presbyterian Church; _ but whenever the- question was seriously mentioned there was a suggestion of absorption, and the lion and tho lamb episode was supposed to illustrate the position. • As long as they had the fear of absorption thero would be no cloeer union. The reunion of the non-episco-pal ohurches must mean merging and merging, and often would mean absorption, but absorption did not mean annihilation. Why, he asked, should Congregationaliste be afraid of absorption. If they could not bear to drop the name, why not let it be "The Presbyterian Church of New Zealand," with which is incorporated the Congregational Union.
