The wreckage at Te Araroa is about two miles from the township, in the direction of Hick's Bay. It is portion of a sailing vessel 125 ft. long. The upper works have gone, but there is evidence of a number of charred benzine cases and hundreds of benzine tin labels. The indications arc that the vessel was burned from the waterline up. Quite recently a man's hat was found bearing the mark of a San Francisco firm, and inside the band a piece of newspaper dated June 17, 1917. The only other personal property are American coins dated 1917, a pair of spectacles, and a set of teeth. Later. No further particulars regarding the wreckage at Te Araroa are available in Gisborne.
