LUKE'S SERVICES (To the Editor.) Sir,— Many Jotters have appeared in reference to the Wellington North seat. 1 take it that honest supporters of the two great parties, Reform and Liberal, are with their leaders, the Prime Minister ami Sir Joseph Ward, in an earnest dosha to win the war. These two 'geniiemnri have chosen Mr. Luke as the nominee of the National Government-. Why? Sir, is it not obvious? Last year John Luke, C.M.G., was honoured by his King in appreciation of liis valuable services to his country in patriotic work of every branch. Then is it not natural that our two leaders desire to gather around them men of Mr. Luke's character—men whom they cau trust, not sowers of discord? 1 submit, sir, that it would have oeen a graceful act for the citizens of AA'ellington to present Mr. Luke with the seat rendered vacant by the Hon. A. L. Herdman, in recognition of his good work and that of the Mayoress during tho war. —I am, etc., . GRATITUDE. February 11. » I
