LUKE IN FOR A MEMBER
Sir. —In view of the present excitement' over the by-election, the following resolutions passed by. n small but select body known as the "Win-the-War-and-Blow-Local-Politics Association" may be of interest to your readers : — "1. The war is the on.ly thing that really mutters at present, so the association will give their votes to the candidate who has done most towards helping Britain and her Allies. "2. If a man has '-o be exempted from active service on account of illhealth, he may with equal reason be exempted from representing the North .Wellington constituency. "3. North Wellington contains plenty of medical men who have demonstrated their professional skill by deeds rather than words and their patriotism by their services to the Forces. If , the electors want outside medical assistance or advice they will ask for it. "4. The North Wellington electorate is not desirous of having their laws made by Holland or any other neutra . "5. Nor does it wish to see the Wellington "Racing Club Brand on. "6 But it is honestly desirous of doing its bit in helping to win the war—at least to have a good Luke in."—l am, etc.,
