THE NAVY LEAGUE

The monthly meeting of the Executive Committco of the Wellington branch of the Navy League wasJicM on Tuesday aftornoon. Mr. .«. iJrfarcourt presided. Mr. C. -K- famitli tendered his resignation as a member of the committee on account of' illhcaltli, but the meeting decided to ask him to accept six months' leave ol absence, and then if possible to resume his seat on tho committee. MrsHall Thompson reported, on behalf of tho Ladies' Auxiliary of the Navy League, and mentioned particularly the- activities of the, Picton branch. This branch lias now a very large membership, and recently hold ft very successful function, at which the sum ot £278 was.raised for the benefit ol tlie men of the Motor Boat, Patrol. , The- hon. secretary reported, on behalf of the sub-committee set up to secure office accommodation, to the rlfect that rooms had been secured in Messrs. Menteafh and Wards Building, Ballanco Street.' The same subcommittee- were authorised to proccc with the furnishing of the rooms, and to sccuro the services ol a suitable person to tako charge "f, 11 ! 01 "-, With regard to the work for the ensuing year the following were appointed an educational sub-committee, Messrs. Foster (convener), Darroch, and Mrs. Hall Thompson. The various members of tho General Committee were allotted the city schools for the purpose of establishin" branches. It is the intention tr. endeavour to arrange for addresses to bo. given bv a mimCer of gentlemen who have offered their services for the purpose in all the schools in the district, and to form branches of the Navy Loa"ue in connection therewith. The Navv League representatives on the War Funds Collecting Committee complained at the lack of courtesy extended to them in not being invited to-attend the last two meetings m connection with King Georges luind. The hon. secretary was instructed to write to His Worship the Mayor expressing regret that the Navy League hud been so far overlooked in connection with this important fund.
