WATERSIDE WORKERS' PICNIC
TUB SPORTS RESULTS. At Day's Bay yesterday the AVcllington Waterside AVorkers' Union held its annual picnic and sports meeting iu glorious weather. At other ports in New Zealand the day was reserved as a holiday for watersido workers, yesterday being tho first time on which all branches of tho union hold their picnics on the samo day. As there was no work done on tho wharves, the seamen on nearly all of tho vessels in port were givon a holiday. Tho early harbour steamerß wore crowded with watorsido workers with their families and friends, and the attendance at tho picnic was. about 3000 persons. The gathering was a pronounced success. A big sports programmo waß gono through, and the various races were well contested. After tho dancing competitions, Miss L. O'Loary, who did not enter for the competitions, gave an exhibition of national dancing, and received well-merited applause. The sports ovents resulted as follow:— Coal -workers' race-J.
