NATIVE REINFORCEMENTS
EXTENSION OP COMPULSION. A Gazette; Extraordinary issued yesterday con talined a proclamation directing the enrolment of tho First Division of the Maori Expeditionary Force Reserve. Reinforcements for the Native section of tjhe Expeditionary Force have been enlisted voluntarily up to tho present time, but Parliament has authorised tie extension of the compulsory eystean to tho Maori race, and 6teps are now being taken to apply this' power.
The period '■ of enrolment will extend from Febrnaity 6 to February 20, and the Government Statistician expects to be in a positkm to take the first ballot among the Jtaori reservists about tho end of the month. The obligation of Becuring enrolment rests, a 6 in tbe case of tho nakeha, reservists, upon the men themselves. Every unmarried Maori man of military ago is required to see that he is prbperly enrolled.
