DEFENCE EXPENDITURE

COMMISSION TO HEAK EVIDENCE IN PUBLIC. It was announced yesterday that tho sittings of tho Defence. Expenditure Commission are to be open to the public. The following statement was issued by the Commission for publication:— "The Commission on War Expenditure is busy examining the various offices and their forms and procedure, and in inspecting the various camps, stores and depots. It purposes visiting the chief centres of the Dominion in order to obtain, a sound knowledge of general matters regarding Defence administration. Tho Commission _ will : take evidence in public at these different centres, and on return to Wellington will take evidence here in public, 1 It is the present intention of members 1 of the Commission tr. leave for Auck- ' land at tho end of the week. Intimation will be given in good time before i the return,of tho Commission to Wol--1 lington."
