DEFENCE EXPENDITURE
THE COMMISSION MEETS
ORDER OF REFERENCE I The Defence Expenditure Commission sat yesterday to discuss preliminary arrangements for the inquiries it will have to make. The members of tho commission are: Brigadier-General Sir Robert Anderson (chairman), Mr. Peter Barr, and Mr. Charles Rhodes. The commission is directed to make inquiry and report upon the efficiency and economy of the financial administration of tl'ie Defence Department and of other Departments acting with it (Hiring the war with reference to the following matters: 1. Headquarters and other administrative brauclies of the'service. 2. The methods of control or super-» vision of expenditure. 3. Pay and allowances of the Defence Forces or of civilians engaged in services in relation to the .war. 4. Military stores equipment and supplies. 5. Military camps. 6. The transport of troops. 7. Hospital ships. 8. Military hospitals. 9. Medical and dental examinations and treatment. 10. Military service hoards. • 11. All other matters involving public expenditure for the purposes of the war. The commission has power to call and examine on oath any witnesses who may be capahle of furnishing information, and to call for and examine all papers, documents, or records. The date named for the completion of the report is "not later than the 30th day of June." Mr. A. E. Briggs, of Hansard staff, is secretary to the commission.
