WAR FUNDS
WORK OF NATIONAL COUNCIL. A statement was made by the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. G. W. Russell) yesterday about the funds in the hands of the National War Funds Council. "I have received a report from the secretary of the National War Funds Council with regard to the financial position of that fund at the present time," said Mr. RuescU. 'The council has at present £28,000 on fixed deposit, earning £3 18s. 7d. per cent., or £1100 per annum. It also holds War Loan certificates of a face value of £2000, payable in 1922. The council is now administering the Westland and Bidler districts, which handed over to the council cash in hand when they were taken over, and the necessary funds are remitted month by month for the maintenance of.soldiers and their dependants in those districts, either for soldiers on service' or discharged men. "Mr. John Roberts, C.M.G., has resigned'from the council owing to the illness of his wife, and he has also resigned from the Aliens Board for the same reason."
