The "Mackay Standard" of January 26 states that a break in the fine weather occurred on January i-. AVhen the cyclone struck the town on January 19 it was blowing from the south, later from the east, and then from tho north, to which was due a sjreat amount of the damage. The mam portion of tho town' is in ruins, scarcely a building escaping. The cyclone continued witn unabated force for fourteen hours. The rainfall for eighteen days was nearly four feet. So far nineteen bodies have been recovered. It is understood that Townsville escaped the cyclone. Coastal shipping is now becoming normal.— Press Assn. ' ' . ; 7, THE MELBOURNE TRAGEDY MURDERER EXECUTED. (Rec. January 29, 9 p.m.) Melbourne, January 29. Budd, the murderer of Mrs. Sampson, has been executed. [Mrs. Sampson, secretary of the Port Melbourne Labour League, and a promineut Red Cross worker, whose husband was serving at the'front, was found dead with her throat cut. Budd, a returned soldier, who had previously boarded at the Sampson's, was discovered in his lodgings with a badly-gashed throat, his condition being critical.]
