KONEr MARKET" The Bank of England discount rate was on January 2, 1914, reduced from 5 to 4J per cent., on January 22 it was reduced to 4 per cent., and on January 23 to 3 per cent. Oil July 30 the rate was ra'sed to 4 per cent., on July 31 it was raised to 8 per cent., and on August 1 it was further advanced to 10 per cent. On Autust 6 the rate was reduced to 6 per cent-., on August 7 it -was further reduced to 5 per ceut., on July 13, 1916, it. was raised to 6 per cent., on January 12, 1917. it was reduced to 5J per ccnt.,' and on April 5 it was further reduced to 5 per cent. OPEN MARKET KATES. The open market discount rate for three months' bills is 4 per cent., as compared with 4 per cent, last ireek and 5 per cent, last year. Short 'oans aro quoted <it 3j per cent., as againßt 35 per cent, last, week, and 4J per cent, last year. • COLONIAL AND OTHER PRODUCE. Wheat.—Cargoes are at a standstill in the absenco of offers. I lttle is offering on the spot, except new Manitobas. Flour.—A small quantity of overseas flour was quickly sold at .full rates. Oats, Beans, and Peas.—Hardening tendency. Sugar.—Unchanged. Butter—Two Australian butter cargoes havo arrived, allowing of another distribution. One was made on January 8, the applications consisting of equal proportions of butter and marcarine. THE METAIj iIARKETS. Tin.—Spot, £259 15s. per ton: three months, £296 15s. Bar silvor, 43Jd. per ounce standard. Other metals aro unchanged.
