MEN MOBILISED. Some official figures relatinc to New Zealand's contributions to the fighting forces of the Empire have been made available for publication. The Dominion up to the present time has sent abroad 88,000 men, and has now iu the training camps about 10,000 men. This makes a total force of 98,000 men. The number of men actually taken into camg for training during the war period has been 107,000. Of this total 9000 men have been discharged prior to embarkation on medical and other grounds. The subtraction of this 9000 men leaves 98,000 as the number of soldiers sent abroad and in training. These figures do not include the officers and men maintained on the home establishment ■iu New Zealand. Nor do they include a substantial number <Jr New Zealanders who are serving with the Imperial and other forces. Sir Auckland Geddes, Director of National Service, told the House of Commons last week that the Empire had raised 7,500,000 troops for service in the present war. England had contributed 4,530,000 men, Scotland 6'20,000, Wales 230,000, Ireland 170,000, and the Dominions and colonies 900,000. Australia up to October 30 last had sent abroad, according to a statement mado by the Federal Minister for Defenco, 298,000 men. Canada up to the end of last year had sent abroad about 380,000 men'. New Zealand, on a population basis., has done substantially better than either Australia or Canada.
