THE INCOME TAX

NOTICES OUT SHORTLY. Sir Joseph Ward (Minister of Finance) made a statement last night regarding the collection of the income tax tliis year. "The tax is due on January 28," said the -Minister, "and the Commissioner has advised me that in the ordinary course the notices for paymcnt of the tax should be issued about January 2-2. The Department has already begun the issue of some of the notices, and during the week the notices to joint slock companies will he got out, and also a section of those to individuals. The rest of the notices v.'ill be late; they will be issued in sequence, and a new due date lixed_ in accordance with the provisions of Section 127 of the Land and Income Tax Act. It is expected that the notices will be cleared just before the end of Felruary. Up "till now the work 1.33 been concentrated on the issue of the notices to companies, as they are tlm largest taxpayers, but it is expected that all the lotices will be issued in time to eiur - the Department to get the revenue before the end of March. Although tli' V'otices are late this year they are not -o late, as they were last year, when the last of them were issued in July. We are asking that the wholo amount of the tax be paid in one sum this year, in order to get all the payments complete by March 31."
