CATHOLIC EDUCATION BOARD
« _ The quarterly meeting of the Wellington Catholic Education Board took place last evening at St. Patrick's Hall. His Grace Archbishop O'Shea presided, and there were also present tho Rev. Fathers Mahoney, S.M., Hurley, S.M., Admr., and Smyth, S.M., Admr., and Messrs. B. Doherty, J. J. L. Burke, M'Phee, Stratford, Fagan, O'Brien,F.K.Reeves, and P. D. Hoskins. The lion, secretary reported that it was estimated when the returns were completed that not less than the handsome sum of £180 would be handed to the education fund as a result of the Boxing Day picnic and concert. The trustees reported that the sum of £2500 had beon invested in good freehold security.
. The Rev. Father Smyth, administrator of the Thorndon parish, reported that he had reduced the mortgage on ■the Hawkestone Street School by £100,, making a total of £400 for the past year, thereby effecting a saving of £20 per annum in interest. Similarly, through the efforts of the Rev. Father Hurley, a saving of £52 Os. 6d. per annum has been effected by extingujshing the mortgago on the _ Marist Brothers' residence in his parish.
