FRENCH GOVERNMENT IN ACCORD

VOTE OF CONFIDENCE IN MINISTRY

Paris, January 12. M. Piehon, Minister of Foreign Affairs, speaking in the Chamber of Deputies, said the Government was in complete accord with the Allies regarding the war aims. Ho endorsed Mr. Lloyd George and President Wilson's views. Ho had refused passports to go to Petrograd, because lib considered it to be part of Germany's gama to draw the French Socialists to the side of tlio Maximalists, with a view to causing confusion and dissension.

The Chamber passed a vote of confidence in the Government by 397 to 145.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.

THE FRENCH AIMS

SUMMED UP BY M. PICRON. (Rec. January 13, 5.5 p.m.) Paris, January 12. M. Piehon summed up the French war aims as:— _ (1) Respect for treaties. (2) Territorial settlement on the basis of national rights. (3) Limitation of armaments. M. Piehon added that a League of Nations, can only he established effectively after . victory has been achieved. France wants tho restoration of Alsace-Lorraine without a plebiscite.—Aus.-N.Z.
